On the island of Lanzarote, Spain, winemakers face one of the most inhospitable climates on earth. While the volcanic soil is acidic, the winds are relentless, there is virtually no rain, and there is no fresh water. Conceptually, it should be very difficult to impossible to grow anything there.
Yet, through intentional design, vines are planted in curved formations—protecting them from the wind and capturing dew at night. This deliberate effort turns a hostile environment into a space where growth is possible.
