On October 18, 2024, the Greater Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 9th Annual Power Your Potential Women’s Conference, bringing together 400 women for a day of empowerment, learning, and connection. The morning kicked off with a keynote from Ryan Manion, CEO of the Travis Manion Foundation, who left the audience with the powerful reminders that “failure is a bruise, not a tattoo,” setting a resilient tone for the day. She underscored the Foundation assertion that individuals can take greater ownership where they have influence or abilities – “if not me, then who“.

Participants were then invited to choose from power sessions on topics like confident communication, estate planning, and professional reengagement. Introduced by Dana DeFilippis, CEO of Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union, and later by Maria Gomes, CEO of New Britain Abstract, Farnia Fresnel, President of The Lenserf Group, led two sessions for 113 women, encouraging them to view professional failure as “fertilizer for what comes next” and to boldly take just one step towards whatever is next. Attendees were reminded that they have the power to shape the future through conscious choices. By the end, these were some of the declarations shared by participants in the room.

  1. I can.
  2. I am worthy to advocate for myself.
  3. I will find my passion.
  4. Embrace change.
  5. Lean in and have fun.

The afternoon keynote was delivered by Kim Wright, owner of five Nothing Bundt Cakes bakery locations in the greater Philadelphia area. Kim began her session immediately after lunch with individual bundt cakes given to each attendee. She then captured the audience’s attention with a lively Texas dance, demonstrating her vibrant energy. As an ex-Navy officer and first-generation U.S. citizen born to Mexican and Filipino parents, she discussed how her family’s values influenced her approach to life. The key message was to “always choose joy,” even in the face of adversity, a principle that has guided her through both personal and professional challenges.

The event concluded with a celebration of two extraordinary women: Nanette Carney, CEO of The Carney Group, and Sara Sanders, Director of Programs for Along the Way, a nonprofit providing free childcare to single mothers and families. Pam Kelly, CEO of the GMC Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged their dedication and contributions with special awards, capping off a day filled with inspiration, support, and community.
